Peninsula Caring

Peninsula Caring is a network of volunteers who come together to respond to locals impacted by COVID-19 and working alongside government and local charities.  Together with 20 for ONE community meal project we are working to support the community to belong, care and connect. All volunteers are screened and supported by the policies and protocols of Rozelle Neighbourhood Centre.

All volunteers at the Centre will be given a Peninsula Caring/RNC ID card and access to training and support through the Centre.

  • Volunteer for Help Line: this role will be supporting the telephone line, logging calls and volunteers on the ground

  • Volunteer Logistics: Sourcing donations and items for locals, packing hampers, connecting to other organisations, local business

  • Volunteer in the Community - this role will be the arms and legs picking up and taking items to individuals in the community (adhoc as needed) for Peninsula Caring and 20 for ONE community

  • Volunteer Cleaner: a roster of volunteers to help the centre with cleaning, vacuuming and sanitising surfaces.

Volunteers must have a current National Police Check. If you need help with accessing this we do have vouchers to pay for the Police Check through Clear To Work.

20 for ONE community - starting small, with big goals!  Marco from Our Place on Darling and his staff had the idea to start '20 for ONE community' to serve 20 meals a week to disadvantaged people in and around Balmain/Rozelle.

The idea grew with invitations for other local restaurants to also make 20 meals. Peninsula Caring came on board to help with the logistics, connect locals through our hotline volunteers and provide logistic and delivery volunteers to be the arms and legs of this initiative.

20 for ONE community

Business Help

Peninsula Caring began in response to the Covid-19 (Corona) virus when two locals Kevin Parker and Gina Hockley approached the centre. Kevin had begun a Facebook group called Balmain Caring and Gina posted on Facebook about an elderly woman in distress with only a tissue box in her trolley as she could not find everyday essentials.

On 16 March Kevin and Gina met with Steven and Lisa from RNC to see how we could all come together to support the community. That same night we held an open meeting at Royal Oak Hotel and the foundation of Peninsula Caring was formed.

Peninsula Caring coordinates volunteers who live in and around the peninsula to help people in these extraordinary tough times who live in Annandale, Balmain, Rozelle, Birchgrove, East Balmain, Leichhardt, Lilyfield and surrounds.
